Why do other open-source projects – such as WordPress, Drupal, and Django – continue to thrive, expand their contributor base, and attract new users, while Plone struggles to gain visibility outside its loyal core?
In this talk, I’ll try to shed some light on what other communities are doing well and where we might fall short with Plone CMS – and what we need to adopt to push forward more effectively. As examples, I’ll share insights from other ecosystems, focusing on their community-building, marketing, and branding strategies that drive growth and relevance.
Attendees will leave with food for thought and, ideally, motivation to brainstorm together within our community boards and delegate practical next steps to Plone’s marketing teams.
Throughout this talk, I aim to open up a few missing bits I’ve observed as an active contributor in other communities, adding my subjective perspective on what can make Plone’s future brighter. This talk is for Plone developers, marketers, and community leaders ready to move beyond technical excellence and embrace proven growth strategies from other successful open-source projects.
