Designing with Plone 6: The Page Builder Experiment
Developer
Intermediate
This case study covers the development of Booost CMS, a visual page builder built on top of Plone 6 Classic.

Details

Booost CMS allows to create fully customized, high-quality websites directly through the web — without writing code, except for optional SCSS/CSS. Booost CMS evolved from earlier work on Plone 5 and has since been used in more than 100 projects, ranging from small business sites to mid-sized platforms. This talk shares my experience creating Booost CMS and explores how it leverages Plone Classic, Mosaic layouts, and TinyMCE to provide a flexible site-building toolkit.

Key features include visual on-the-fly styling, custom content and layout tiles, and dynamic header and footer management. Beyond the feature set, I discuss the advantages and trade-offs of building a page builder on top of Plone: how it empowers non-developers, the risks involved in working against the framework, and how it fits into the broader theming ecosystem.

I also briefly cover hosting and deployment (mxdev, Docker, Traefik, RelStorage) and a bit of AI.
