With the experience of building seven tech conference websites over the past four years, we recognized recurring challenges and common needs in event site development. To address these, we created Tech Event, a Plone add-on that makes launching a new conference website faster and easier.

This talk will share the journey of developing Tech Event: from lessons learned across multiple real-world deployments to the key technical decisions that shaped its design.

We will explore the challenges of creating and maintaining a solution that spans both backend (collective.techevent) and frontend (@plone-collective/volto-techevent) components, highlighting how we structured the project to balance flexibility, maintainability, and usability.

Finally, we will look at strategies for packaging Plone solutions for broader reuse, along with practical insights for anyone aiming to streamline the development of event or community websites.
